Thank you, dear. Have you read these books? If you like fantasy at all, I really would reccomend them.
It’s canon that Fire and at least some of the people from her land are not white, and darker than anyone the rest of the characters have met before. I get that her skin isn’t really mentioned in her own book, because that’s because it’s 3rd person limited, and Fire doesn’t think her skin is unusual enough to mention. It’s her hair that’s the freaky bit. And I also get that we tend to associate red hair (even unnaturally red/gold/pink monster hair) with white people. But once it’s been clearly stated by the author that she’s at the very least NOT WHITE and presumably with rather dark skin (depending on how you read the rest of the characters), posting fanart of white!Fire is just assy. I’m happy to support anykindof dark skin an artist wants to give her, however they want to portray that. It doesn’t say she’s Senegalese, or Tamil, or Indigenous Australian. All of those would be awesome options out of many.
I have a lot of feels about racists, and they are all angry feels. It’s such a tiny fucking fandom. I’m pissed off that half of us are assholes.
PS to other artists: yeah, if you’re not used to drawing dark skin, it IS a lot harder to shade and light properly. That’s why you read tutorials and do it anyway, fuckers. I’m not great at it yet, either, but I’m trying and I require you to also try. I DECLARE MYSELF THE QUEEN OF MONSEA AND YOU BITCHES WILL LISTEN.
PPS: This turned into a really long reblog where I did not intend it. I am so happy not to be at work today.
